Moorgate, BT Exchange

Clients: Waterland, Telent and BT

Duration: 22 weeks

Location: Moorgate, London

Description of works:

Michael Roarty, working for Waterland constructed 4 new permanent BT chambers, at Moorgate in the City of London.

Over 100m of 48 way ducting was also diverted through tunnels between the chambers and the old BT exchange.

The temporary working shafts varied in size up to 7m x 6.9m and were up to 7m deep through some of the heavily service congested ground in London.

Protection to the existing services was provided both prior to and during excavation. Existing chambers were decked out above the cables and a number of other services were supported from beams spanning the shaft at the surface.
